Description

Emily Breeze, a Bristol based pop noir artist, returns with her new album Rapture. The album was written and recorded in her 40th year on planet earth. The songs within are a poignant and humorous reflection on growing old disgracefully in an increasingly weird world.

Emily describes Rapture as "a collection of coming-of-(middle age) stories which celebrate flamboyant failure, excess, and acceptance." She decided to embrace her age after receiving advice from music industry types to hide it, viewing it as a dirty secret. The album's themes also include cosmology, providing a backdrop to everyday experiences as the universe unfolds into the great enveloping infinite dark.

Many of the songs on the album incorporate cut up excerpts from science articles and cosmologists like Carl Sagan, blended with Emily's absurdist imagery. For example, "we will high five the aliens, we will receive a standing ovation from the angels." The centrepiece of the album, "Part of Me," is a six-minute sprawling epic that explores the alternative fates of towering figures of the 21st century. Examples include "Elvis moved to the suburbs for a witness protection scheme" and "Princess Diana went undercover; she works at Anne Summers she wears a disguise."
