Description

Prestwich's finest were always a phenomenal proposition in a live environment. Mark E Smith and his cohorts would twist the studio versions of their songs into new, angular shapes, often injecting a palpable sense of danger for good measure.

This collection finds The Fall performing at a time many consider one of their many peaks. In the early 80s, they were in their "classic" line-up (granny not on bongos) and in the midst of a creative streak that saw the release of Slates, Grotesque (After The Gramme), and what many consider their finest hour (1hr), Hex Enduction Hour.

Not only was the band at a creative peak, but as a live entity they were fizzing with intensity, something that's clear across these recordings.

There are plenty of highlights, but it's the nine-minute-plus version of 'Deer Park' that really stands out. Its relentless repetition creates a feverish, hypnotic state, while Smith's rant about the music industry, hype, and London is delivered with appropriate venom.
