The Soup Dragons formed in Bellshill in 1985. They signed to Bristol-based label The Subway Organization in 1986 and released their breakthrough hit Whole Wide World soon after, the track reached No. 2 on the UK Independent Chart. The band then signed to label Raw TV and had further chart success before releasing their debut This Is Our Art in 1988. In 1990 they released their biggest UK hit, a cover of I'm Free by the Rolling Stones. They then released Divine Thing which became their biggest US hit.
The band split up in 1995, with all members going on to other ventures. Sean formed The High Fidelity then became DJ HiFi Sean, Paul Quinn joined Teenage Fanclub, Sushil K. Dade formed Future Pilot A.K.A and has had a career as a producer for BBC Radio 3, Jim McCulloch joined Superstar among other musical projects and Ross Sinclair has had a successful career as an artist, writer and musician, he is a professor at Glasgow School of Art.
The band have returned to the studio and are set to release AA 7" single Love Is Love / No Music On A Dead Planet in 2023. They have announced a tour in the UK.
