Originally formed for a one-off show, Nicol & Elliott immediately stumbled upon a songwriting prowess and live chemistry that they felt would be remiss to ignore. The duo's instincts were to prove right with their folky Americana catching the attention of legendary Glasgow label, Electric Honey.
Nicol & Elliott's debut single, the bluegrass tinged Wish You'd Stayed Away, was released in March 2019 and was followed by tender ballad Sweet Downfall in October of the same year.
The pair moved on from Electric Honey and joined forces with the innovative Glasgow-based label Last Night From Glasgow's Hive imprint for the released of their debut EP, My Heart Will Wait. The EP saw a development in musical style with the duo embarking on a self-explorative journey into dark subject matter in the Southern Gothic tradition and was characterised by introspective lyrics and sweet harmonies.
Undeterred by the lockdown imposed as a consequence of a global pandemic, Nicol & Elliott contributed to Last Night From Glasgow's Isolation Sessions, a benefit LP aimed at raising funds for local businesses effected by the crisis. Their cover of "Backup Baby" (L-Space) received plaudits for encapsulating the spirit of the project whereby acts recorded at home in isolation.
