James Barker (Guitar/Vocals) and Mark Daniels (Bass/Vocals) have been making music together since their days in Juno, the critically-acclaimed but ill-fated electro-pop collective who disbanded in 2009, when their debut album was suddenly and inexplicably pulled from release by their then-record label. After “two weeks of sulking in bed,” however, the pair soon found themselves formulating ideas for what their next project would be.
For Barker, that meant rediscovering the British guitar-pop of his youth - Blur, XTC, Roxy Music, Syd Barrett-era Pink Floyd - that would become the hallmark of Ace City Racers’ sound. Naming themselves after London's Ace Cafe, a historic meeting-place for the youth tribes of the early 1960s, it didn't take long for the pair to find their first supporter: after recording a Garageband demo of their first collaboration, Barker and Daniels submitted the track to producer Stephen Street, who was sufficiently impressed to invite them down to London to record in his studio.
The experience of working with the legendary Blur and Smiths producer - before they'd even played a gig - was an invaluable one, and the band still have a standing agreement to make a full album with Street sometime in the future. Nevertheless, “it really took us a few years after that to reach the peak of what we wanted the band to become. We had a lot of ideas back then, but we were struggling to properly translate them.”
LNFG released their second album 'Citalodisco' in 2021.
