The Bathers are a Scottish chamber pop band. The vehicle for singer-songwriter, Chris Thomson, they are sometimes referred to as "the best-kept secret in Scottish music" and have released seven albums. Initially active between 1985 and 2001, they reformed in 2016.
Thomson came from former band Friends Again, along with James Grant and other members who would go on to form Love and Money. Thomson secured a solo deal with Go! Discs Records, using the project name The Bathers and drew upon a pool of musicians including Grant, to flesh out his songs on debut album 'Unusual Places To Die' released in 1987. The band then went on to release 'Lagoon Blues' (1993), 'Sunpowder' (1995) and 'Kelvingrove Baby' (1997).
PNFG were set to rerelease 'Unusual Places To Die' and an accompanying EP 'More Unusual Places To Die' featuring early recordings. However issues with licensing have resulted in a different project. Summer Lightning is a 11 track album with some new never before released song, fully remastered and some alternative versions of previously available tracks. It is available now on both green and white vinyl. Unusual Places To Die is being released in late 2023 alongside new album Sirenesque.
