It is with a heavy heart that we must advise of our decision to remove Mother Natures Kitchen from public sale. The release has been fraught with adversity. Despite approving the release, approving the masters, the artwork and the liner notes, on the approach to its release Kevin McDermott took to social media, claiming the album had been produced without his approval. (one should add the album is owned by Island / Universal) He claimed to had no say on its mastering, despite us possessing emails confirming his agreement to them. He claimed to have never received a Test Pressing, despite around 40 people witnessing a copy being provided to him.
His negativity at release prompted us to withdraw all promotion as we did not wish to fan the flames of some invented mistreatment. The result is simply that having spent around £4500 mastering and manufacturing the LP, close to £3000 on licensing and £1000 on MCPS (It should be added that the latter payments go to the owners of the catalogue and thus are accounted to the artist by other means) we are running a loss of around £1500. It is actually a tad more but we have written off storage fees, press costs, liner note costs etc
We often have to maintain debts on albums as they run through their release journey, however it has become apparent that we will never reach an even keel as we will never enjoy an anniversary of release without another spate of attacks and lies on social media.
Recently Kevin McDermott claimed we had sent him a bill for £1000, this is an absolute lie, we have never sent any artists a bill for anything ever. He also claimed we had not accounted to him, despite accounting in both 20222 and 2023.
It should be pointed out that Kevin McDermott does not own the rights to the recorded works and thus is neither entitled to any profits from licenses releases nor responsible for any debts. That said we had confirmed that Kevin would receive a share of the profits once we achieved a profitable state. This normally takes 12-16 months.
He claims that he is owed money, (and that he owes us money) the truth is He and Universal Music are the only people to have made any money from this release so far. Kevin has earned the MCPS and his portion of royalties from the catalogue. Universal have earned the license fee.
We have on four separate occasions offered to supply Kevin with copies of the record he could sell at shows (at no cost) as we know this can be the quickest and easiest way for an artist to turn a release into profit. We would continue to service the debt whilst he profited from the local event scene. This offer has never been accepted.
Thus today we have decided to withdraw the item from sale and close this sorry chapter - if anyone out there is desperate for a copy drop us a line, we might retain a couple just in case.
