Scottish Fiction and Last Night From Glasgow are proud to present 'Spectral', the new EP from Annie Booth.
Following on from 2017’s triumphant debut album 'An Unforgiving Light', Scottish singer-songwriter Annie Booth returns with a new four-track EP that delivers a far more intimate collection of songs. Working with acclaimed producer Chris McCrory (Catholic Action, Siobhan Wilson) 'Spectral' showcases bittersweet notions set against sparse and creeping instrumentation.
Lead single 'Magic 8' opens the EP, providing a direct introduction to 'Spectral'’s lyrical frankness; on this release, Booth is exposing herself and her shortcomings to the listener with a touching sincerity.
Second track 'Mirage' is an examination of hope, reflecting on our desire for its solace amid the dangers of its deceit. Its lassitude is
an apt reflection of our uncertain times, as Booth channels the listlessness of her generation.
Piano-laden and reminiscent of Regina Spektor’s aching melancholy, 'Still' is haunted by Booth’s longing, fading cries. Closing track 'Spiralling' combines the despondency of Phoebe Bridgers with open-wounded pining; perfect for leaving the listener longing for more. It urges the listener to hang onto the silence in its closing moments – a testament to its poignancy. Affecting and dense in subject matter, 'Spectral' traces Booth’s maturing development as a songwriter both musically and lyrically.
