Theaudience were formed in London in 1996 by guitarist Billy Reeves (Congregation). The group was fronted by Sophie Ellis-Bextor and included drummer Patch Hannan (The Sundays), keyboard player Nigel Butler (The Bridge), guitarist Dean Mollett (Porcupine) and bass guitarist Kerin Smith. The band's only album Theaudience was released in 1998 and received critical acclaim, reaching #22 in the UK album charts. However, after Reeves departure, their label Mercury Records dropped the band, launching Ellis-Bextor's successful solo career.
Past Night From Glasgow re-released the band's self-titled album in 2022, featuring 6 bonus tracks.
