China Crisis formed in Kirkby, Merseyside in 1979 by the core duo of Gary Daly (lead vocals / keys) and Eddie Lundon (vocals / guitar). They found commercial success throughout the 1980s, boasting ten top 50 singles and three top 40 albums. Citing acts like Bowie, Brian Eno and Steely Dan as influences, China Crisis became key players in the new-wave synth-pop scene. However, they’ve borrowed from various styles across their career; combining elements of jazz, reggae and ambient to name a few. Their genre defying sound paired with quick political commentary has never gone out of style.
